A really nice elderly couple runs this place. My husband and I met them as we were finishing up our exploration of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine. We were wrapping up a long day of walking through Shirakawa-go and Takayama Old Town, so we were in dire need of a late afternoon snack before heading back to the hotel. We entered a traditional Edo-style building right next to the main gate. There were ceramics displayed on shelves and various art pieces in the front window, so it was a true art gallery. The cafe portion consisted of a couple of tables with chairs, and the menu was made up of coffee drinks and a few desserts. That was enough of a choice for us as we ordered a couple of ¥600 Iced Cappuccinos. We also treated ourselves to a ¥600 Jumbo Pudding. They weren't kidding as it was a sizable serving of caramel flan suitable for two sizable appetites. Quite tasty, all of it. Even though they didn't speak English, they took an impressive stab at my Google Translate to share their personal history in creating the shop. They were quite sweet. Definitely stop by if you're in the area. COFFEE / DESSERT - 5 stars...a lotta love and care in what they make AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...surrounded by fine art SERVICE - 5 stars...the owners show great pride and kindness TOTAL - 5 stars...caffeine amid the local art

Awesome spot to get a coffee away from the hectic streets of Takayama. The couple who run the cafe were so lovely. Coffee was fantastic.

What a find! We planned on going by the temple before stopping for coffee and when we saw the sign, we simply couldn’t stay away. The couple running the shop are so very friendly. The wife was very kind and bubbly, and the husband makes delicious quality coffee. They really love what they do, as evidenced by his humming while brewing coffee and making such lovely designs (my cat was soooo cute!), and her being ultra welcoming to us in English and explaining the background of the ceramics in the shop. We went to two other coffee shops in Takayama, and I’m glad we finally found this one. Sipping cute and tasty cappuccinos outdoors in front of the temple was serene and comforting all at the same time. Make good choices in Japan, and just come here for coffee!

the sweetest loveliest coffee shop with the sweetest loveliest owners. The wife spoke very good English which she said she was learning on duolingo and her husband is a absolute expert at making coffee. Them and a friend of theirs visiting the cafe at the same time as us gave some some great recommendations for the area and sitting in their cozy coffee shop listening and talking with them drinking the cutest coffee anyone has ever made me I felt so at home. It was a freezing cold day and this place warmed me in every sense of the word. Absolutely stop in if you get a chance

So far the nicest cafe experience we had in Japan. We were welcomed by a very lovely couple - which were the owners. They explained to us the food and coffee we ordered. The lady also talked about the pottery for sale and delighted to find out that they are all made in Takayama including some made by her son. They have a very relaxing atmosphere close to the shrine. Our espressos and desserts were a good break from exploring the beautiful area.

In a country of warm welcomes, this was as warm as you get! Nana and Pops were so welcoming and friendly. The setting is beautiful, the gallery has some lovely ceramics and the coffee was made with love.

quaint and cozy little coffee shop run by an elderly retired couple who just loves their coffee, their art and meeting people. excellent pudding (the highlight was elevating the subtle caramel flavour with a shot of espresso) and very good cappuccino too! the elderly lady spoke English well and made me feel like welcome with her kind words and conversation. they open only 3 days a week but it's a great place to chill and hang out. highly recommended if you want good coffee with a nice local vibe.
